Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 23, 2026

Our Commitment

At WhatDoTheyCollect, we're committed to transparency about privacy — including our own. This document outlines exactly how we handle information on our platform.

Information We Collect

  • Email addresses — only if you voluntarily subscribe to privacy update notifications. This is entirely optional.
  • Analytics data — we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. This includes pages visited, session duration, general geographic region (country/city), device type, and browser. GA4 may set cookies on your browser to enable this tracking.
  • No personal data from our analysis — our privacy policy analysis process does not collect or store any personal data about you.

Cookies

We use cookies only where necessary. The cookies set on this site are:

  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — set by Google Analytics 4 to distinguish visitors and track session information. These are analytics cookies and are only set after you accept our cookie consent notice.
  • Cookie consent preference — a small item stored in your browser's localStorage to remember whether you have accepted or declined analytics cookies.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the site.

How We Use Information

  • Send email updates about new privacy policy analyses and features (if subscribed)
  • Understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it
  • We never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process data about you:

  • Google Analytics 4 — measures site traffic and user behavior. Data is processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of GA4 tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Supabase — our database provider, used to store email addresses submitted through our subscription and site request forms. Data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
  • Slack — we receive internal notifications via Slack when a subscription or site request form is submitted. These notifications may include the email address you provided. Slack is used solely for our internal operations and does not use your data for any other purpose. See Slack's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

  • Email addresses — retained until you unsubscribe. We delete your email address promptly upon request.
  • Google Analytics data — retained for 14 months by default, as configured in our GA4 property settings.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Unsubscribe from emails — click the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or contact us directly.
  • Opt out of analytics — decline cookies when prompted by our consent banner, or use your browser settings to block or delete GA4 cookies (_ga, _ga_*).
  • Request data deletion — email us at hello@whatdotheycollect.com and we will delete any personal data we hold about you.
