About WhatDoTheyCollect

Our Mission

WhatDoTheyCollect is dedicated to making privacy policies transparent and accessible. We believe everyone has the right to understand how their personal data is being collected, used, and shared by the websites and services they use.

In an era where privacy policies are often lengthy, complex, and buried in legal jargon, we provide clear, concise summaries that help you make informed decisions about your digital privacy.

What We Do

Analyze

We systematically review privacy policies from popular websites and services.

Simplify

We break down complex legal language into easy-to-understand summaries.

Educate

We empower users with knowledge to make informed privacy decisions.

Our Approach

  • Accuracy: We use AI-assisted analysis to review privacy policies and work continuously to improve accuracy. Our summaries are best-effort interpretations and may not capture every detail.
  • Neutrality: We present information objectively without bias or judgment.
  • Timeliness: We monitor policy changes and update our content regularly
  • Accessibility: We make complex information understandable for everyone

How We Analyze Privacy Policies

Our privacy policy summaries are generated using OpenAI GPT, a large language model AI. We feed each company's privacy policy text into the AI, which reads and interprets the document and produces a structured summary of key data practices, risk factors, and user rights.

We believe transparency about this process is important. AI analysis offers a consistent, scalable way to cover hundreds of privacy policies — but it has real limitations:

  • AI can misinterpret ambiguous legal language
  • Subtle nuances in policy wording may be missed or overstated
  • Analyses reflect the policy text at a point in time and may not capture recent changes
  • Our summaries are best-effort interpretations, not legal advice

We work continuously to improve the quality and accuracy of our analyses. If you spot an error, please let us know.

Our Commitment to Privacy

As advocates for digital privacy, we practice what we preach. We collect minimal data necessary to operate our service, use privacy-respecting analytics, and are transparent about our own data practices.

We never sell user data, track users across websites, or engage in practices that compromise your privacy. Our goal is to be a trusted resource that respects your digital rights.
